Resume Review Service

What is the Resume Review Service?

Brownwood Library’s Resume Review is a service provided to our community to help you polish your resume and be ready to find your next job. Resume reviewers are Brown County folks, both library employees or volunteers, that have experience copy editing, teaching, hiring employees, etc.

This service is currently planned to be offered during the COVID-19 crisis. Depending on its popularity and availability of volunteers, we may continue it.

What can the Resume Review Service do for me?

Each situation is unique. Some people need to entirely redo their resume. Other people may need a little polish. Others just want a second pair of eyes before sending out their resume. You will work one-on-one with your resume coach to determine both of your needs and expectations.

How long will it take to review my resume?

Again, each situation is unique. Many of our reviewers are volunteers. We also need you to commit to stay in communication with your reviewer in a timely fashion. Resumes will be assigned to reviewers on a first-come, first-served basis. However, once we have partnered you with a volunteer reviewer, we will try to get the polished resume back to you within a week.

What is required to participate in the Resume Review Service?

First of all, you must be a resident of Brown County. The Brownwood Public Library serves Brown County and we want to focus our attention on our patrons. Depending on availability of volunteers, we will consider reviewing resumes from residents of surrounding counties.

Second, you must have an updated resume. We will not create a resume from scratch. We will help you polish it, edit it, format it, etc., but there must be something to start with. Your resume must also be in a text-editing format, preferably Microsoft Word. We cannot work from a PDF or other image file.

Third, you must commit to be involved in this process. Your resume is very personal. You know what you did at your jobs. You know the lingo of your field. If something is not correct, you are ultimately responsible for the content of your resume. Additionally, we may need to be in frequent communication with you as we work on your resume. If you are not committed to being involved in this process, then this is not a good fit for you.

How do I get started?

Fill out the form below and send us your resume! We will be in touch.

    Submit Your Resume for Review

I understand that this is a free advisory service offered by volunteers of Brownwood Library. I understand that my resume is ultimately my responsibility and I will decide which edits, changes and suggestions to keep. No one knows my work history better than myself so I will review all edits and changes before submitting my resume to any company or apply for any job. I agree not to hold the Brownwood Library, nor any of its employees, volunteers or board members, responsible for the ultimate content of my resume.

I commit to being an active participant in this process, staying in regular communication with my resume coach. I understand that if I am not an active participant in revising my resume, this work cannot continue.
