FAQs
Sign up!

Come to the library to sign up for the Reading Club, get a reading log, and read your way toward some cool prizes. You can pick up a reading log starting May 29.

Visit the library and sign up! Sign your child up for Little Explorer’s Club (0-3) or the Kids Club (3 and up).

This year, the library has two clubs:

Little Explorer's Club (children 0-36 months)

This club is for our youngest readers. Sign your kids up and get an Early Literacy Log. Do Early Literacy activities with your children in June, then return it in July for a prize. Then do July's activities and return it in August for a prize.

Children up to 36 months must be enrolled in the Little Explorer's Club. Due to small parts, they may not enroll in the regular Summer Reading Club. However, they are welcome to come to programs. Programs for children 0 through entering Kindergarten are generally Thursday mornings at 10:00. Please see the calendar below.

Little Explorer Club logs must be turned in no later than August 7 to be eligible for a prize.

This club is for kids 3 years old and older! This year, we're doing Read and Bead! Sign up, get a Reading Log. Then, choose if you want a keychain or necklace and add your brag tag. Keep reading throughout the summer to add beads to your chain! Get a bead for every 15 minutes you read. Or, save up for fancier beads. We have glow-in-the-dark beads, sparkly beads and more. Also, we have beads shaped like footballs, dolphins, flowers, giraffes and more! Read more about Read and Bead.

We have two back-to-back programs for kids this summer. For children ages 0 through entering Kindergarten, programs will be on Wednesday at 10:00. For children entering first grade and older, programs will be on Wednesday at 11:00 (with exceptions, see below).

Find out more about Read and Bead here!!!

Summer Reading Club logs must be turned in no later than July 17 to get a certificate at the final party. Last day to turn in reading logs is July 26.

Pick your reading log up at the library, or print your own (below).

FAQs

Picture
When and where can I pick up reading club information?
Pick up your reading packet anytime at the Brownwood Library (600 Carnegie St.) beginning May 19.

What can I read?
Anything you enjoy! You can read graphic novels, comics, magazines, books, audiobooks and more! You also don't have to read library books. Read your own books, read library books or borrow from a friend!

What does it cost to participate?
Nothing! The Summer Reading Club is provided free of charge to the community.

Do I need a library card to participate?
No, but we'd encourage you to get one anyway! Brownwood Library cards are free. With your library card, you can borrow eBooks, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines and borrow a computer. Besides, it's a small way you can help your local library. It helps us show our funders and donors that the library is important to our community!

What if my family has children in more than one age group? Which program should we attend?
Choose whichever one you think will work best for your family! The programs are similar, but keep in mind the age group for which they were intended. For example, older children should give the younger children a chance to respond in the younger children's programs. And please supervise young children during both programs, but especially in the programs for older children.

How do I complete the Summer Reading Club?
The goal for the summer is 560 minutes. Complete the goal, earn a certificate and a special rocket-ship-shaped brag tag for your necklace, available only for kids completing the 2019 SRC goal! We hope to increase the number of kids reaching the goal this year! Even after you reach the goal, you can keep going and earning beads until July 30.

What about the big prizes?
This year we're focusing more on the value of reading and don't have as many big prizes. However, we do have a few donations and coupons that we'll be giving out. Some prizes will be given out to attendees of programs. Get a chance to win a bigger prize by completing the goal for the summer!

I'm a daycare provider/preschool teacher. How can I participate?
First, we'd encourage you to bring your kids to our programs! There is room for all.

Second, talk to us about special arrangements for signing your kids up for Read and Bead. Even if you can't take the kids to the programs, we want all children in the community to be rewarded for reading! We've already partnered with several daycares to make this as streamlined as possible, but if we don't already have a partnership with you, please contact us.

Third, please encourage your families to come. We love the daycares coming, but we really want families coming as well. Let parents know about programs and prizes!
